Lucky shot: Paris

Man in Balance

Sometimes I feel like my life as a photographer started in Paris. I just finished secondary school, went to Paris, took my first camera with me, went to one of those cute little theaters you can find in that beautiful city, and took a shot. A lucky shot, as it turned out later, because even today, I’m still content with this shot. The man, his whole body and mind concentrating to keep the glass ball rolling over his arms, back, shoulders, for one moment in a state of perfect balance… Just as I decided to press the shutter.

Just as I am thinking about expanding my photography experience by using new (analog) cameras I discover the abilities of my iPhone 4. It appears this kind of low pixel photography starts out to be ‘the next big thing’ thanks to Apps like Instragr.am, where you can process and share your snapshots immediately. Though I’m not a big fan of taking pictures with low pixel density (that lovely picture will be such a disappointment once printed out) I’m starting to really fall in love with my Instagr.am filters. Here’s one of the pictures I took yesterday morning. I’ll probably never print this one out in poster format, but well, it looks nice on screen.

Rotterdam Skyline

Sometimes the lighting just isn’t perfect. But you’re in a place you can’t ignore, and you’ve got your camera with you. You just take the picture, post-process it, and end up satisfied with the end-result. Not perfect, just satisfying. Because it’s one of the views of your city you absolutely love.
