About
As a young female discovering the world around me, I started out with a 4 megapixel compact camera. I went to Paris, took pictures in Rotterdam, and was surprised that after a year or so I was asked to display my pictures in a photo exposition at my university. People told me I had ‘the photographic eye’. I started to perceive the world around me as a series of pictures I could take. Photography became my first love.
The power of photography is being able to get someone else to see the world as you observe it. To walk with a couple of friends through the city, and to hear at the end of the day: “Where did you take that picture? I didn’t even notice that!” I’ve heard different people say many times: “I would never have thought of taking a picture of this”, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for as a photographer. The different perspective, the picture that was ignored before I came by.
As I’ve struggled to find a way to display my photography in a neat and complete manner I decided to start this website. To display what I’ve already done, but also to explore, develop and learn from other photographers who are willing to view and comment my pictures. I believe photography isn’t just about the right gear, the best ray of light, the ultimate subject. It’s about being at the right place, at the right time, and feeling like taking a picture with just that little bit of passion you need to bring the ordinary to life.
“the best camera is the one that’s with you” (Chase Jarvis)
A few cameras are in my possession. When I count all of them, including the ones I don’t use, I have eight. I use a Nikon D80 for deliberate photography, and use two lenses on this camera: Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM and Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC. My Leica D-Lux 4 is highly appreciated for its ability to handle difficult light situations. Finally, I use my iPhone 4 for all photography when ‘on the way’. Obviously this is the camera that’s always with me, and for that I’m often grateful.
